Your volunteer time is valued more than you know – by the teachers and staff, by the PTA, but most importantly, by the KIDS!

 

Whether you have 10 minutes here or there, days at a time, are a working parent, stay at home parent, grandparent – we would love to join us. See the different opportunities we currently have to volunteer.

ACTIVITIES

Community Service


  • School Directory: An annual directory listing classroom and contact information for Red Rocks students, parents, and staff.
  • Morrison Cider Fest: Support for this wonderful fall festival in the town of Morrison.
  • Project Angel Heart: Provides support for Colorado families in need.

Health/Wellness Awareness


  • Mileage Club: Conducted during lunch recess three days weekly, in fall and spring. Students are encouraged to run or walk an established lap on school grounds to accumulate miles. Volunteers needed during the school day for this popular program to continue.
  • Health and Safety: Classroom discussions on tobacco, drugs, nutritional awareness, bus safety, and good character training for students. Students are encouraged to bring healthy snacks consisting of fruits and vegetables to school each day. Healthy food at school celebrations is also highly encouraged.
  • Raccoons on the Rocks: The school has an annual Family Hike in the spring. This is an opportunity for families to hike together in the beautiful backdrop of the school through Red Rocks Park. This event supports our Healthy Schools Initiatives which encourage healthy habits in our school community.

The Arts


  • Reflections: Students have an opportunity to express themselves through various art forms: literature, music composition, dance, film, photography or visual arts. Students’ projects are displayed in the school and judged by an outside panel. Winners are entered into a regional and national PTA Reflections competition.
  • Drama Club: Students have the opportunity to audition for a role in the school play. Theater provides children the chance to grow through self-expression and build confidence in their public speaking skills that will last them a lifetime. Nominal fee required.

Educational Support


  • Guest Speakers: Providing key information on how to support your children and family.
  • Red Rocks PTA website: Created and updated by PTA to keep you informed.

Social Activities


  • Welcome Back Social: Held right before the first day of school for parents and students to become acquainted with their new classrooms and teachers and reconnect with friends or meet new ones after the summer break.
  • Paint on the Rocks: An evening for our students and their families to gather for a fun family art activity led by a local artist.
  • Carnival: All-school and community festival with games, food, music, and more. Held each May.
  • Summer Outdoor Movie: Gather on the soccer field to enjoy an outdoor summer movie with the spectacular Red Rocks Amphitheater in the background.
  • Staff Appreciation: Special gifts and meals are prepared for the staff during Parent/Teacher conferences (in the fall and spring) and during Staff Appreciation week (in the spring).

Volunteer Opportunities

Support our Students


  • Room Parent: Responsible for forwarding emails from the PTA to your classroom parents as necessary. ***Optional: Organize a group class gift for teacher and class paraprofessionals for winter break and end of the school year. Returning in 2021-2022, this parent works with the Room Parent Coordinator to learn the coordinated party plan from the school. Verifies that the 2 classroom parties (Halloween, and Valentine’s Day parties) have a planner and communicates to the party organizer the specific rules of the teacher.
  • Classroom Party Coordinator: Plan 3-4 games and/or craft AND a food/drink table for the class to celebrate. Coordinate with teacher as needed. Create a “Sign Up Genius” for parents to bring in food, craft supplies, and volunteer the day of the party.
  • Drama Club Director: Choose performance materials and cast students in roles. Plan and arrange performances. Meet weekly with students for morning rehearsals.
  • Pumpkin Carving Contest: The pumpkin carving contest is open to all students. Each child is encouraged to decorate his/her pumpkin any way they want…scary, silly, goofy, etc. They drop off their pumpkin at school and will be on display for all their peers to see that day! The pumpkins is judged by a panel of students and parents and one child in every class will win! Sign up will include the following: coordinator, judging committee, making award ribbons, set up, and clean up.
  • Carnival: The Carnival is one of Red Rocks Elementary’s most popular events! One Friday evening in May our school is transformed into a sea of laughter, games, and community fellowship that is not to be missed.
    Coordinator – The coordinator is in charge of advertising the event in the Raccoon and coordinating and selecting carnival activities. Leads carnival committee with a series of committee meetings to determine games, prizes and inflatables. Sends home order forms in Friday folders for pre-order wrist bands/tickets.
    Committee – Members meet several times prior to event to discuss and assist with the above coordinator responsibilities.
  • Summer Movie: Students and their families can join us on the soccer field and enjoy an outdoor movie and snacks. Sign up to volunteer your time to assist the PTA with this fun event.
    Coordinator – Sign up for this position and you are in charge of movie selection, marketing the event in the Raccoon and via fliers. Sends out and collects permission slips, and organizes snacks.
    Volunteers – Sign up to help serve snacks the afternoon of the movie.
  • Art Reflections: Two mornings during the fall, volunteers will be asked to help display and take down the students’ Reflections projects in the lobby of Red Rocks.
  • Yearbook: Committee members plan and create yearbook pages using online software, solicit and organize candid photos, organize and judge the cover art contest, compile 5th grade biographies, and communicate deadlines to the Red Rocks community.

Support our Parent Community


  • SAC – School Accountability Committee Representative: Each classroom has a parent volunteer who attends monthly Accountability meetings and reports back to the parents within their classroom.
  • Re-loadable Grocery Card Coordinator: This popular program brings in thousands of dollars to the school each year! The coordinator is responsible for advertising the program and facilitating the distribution of Natural Grocers, King Soopers and Safeway re-loadable grocery cards.

Support our Teachers and Staff


  • Fall Teacher Conferences: Volunteers will be asked to sign up & bring in a homemade dish for teachers as they work during conferences. Information for easy drop off and needed lunch items will be provided.
  • Spring Teacher Conferences: Volunteers will be asked to sign up & bring in a homemade dish for teachers as they work during conferences. Information for easy drop off and needed lunch items will be provided.
  • Staff Appreciation Week: Sign up for “easy- drop off” food/drink items and/or volunteer to help out at planned events to say thank you to the entire staff at Red Rocks for making Red Rocks Elementary a school of excellence!!

Support our Local Community


  • Morrison Ciderfest: The PTA has a booth each fall at the Morrison Ciderfest located at 485 Summer Street, Morrison.
