Staying involved in your child's education.

Stay in touch and help the school. If you work full-time, check out the ideas marked with ** Whether it is baking at home or giving a presentation in a classroom or organizing an event, your volunteer hours make a difference to ALL the kids. Please review the attached sign-up sheet, we sincerely appreciate your involvement!

  • Read the school newsletter, The Raccoon, coming home on Fridays and post issues on your refrigerator. Keep the Green Calendar for a listing of dates and events, available from the school office. Order a School Directory for access to teacher and student information. Check out our website at www.redrocksPTA.org for info and an online calendar. Use your technology skills to HELP with the website!**
  • Develop a collaborative relationship with your child's teacher and check in for progress reports.**For 4th -6th kids, look at their planners.**Take time each day to review your child's day and read to your child!
  • Come to PTA meetings, held the second Wednesday of each month. We alternate between morning (9-11 am) and evening (6:30-8:30 pm) meetings and strive to keep our meetings informative!. Check the "Green Calendar" for dates and times or watch for notices in The Raccoon.** First meeting is Sept 10 at 9:15 am.
  • Urgent! Help the school with our first fundraiser of Entertainment Books. If each child sells 4 books, this raises $7,200 for homeroom parties, student planners, hospitality, Soccer Night, Carnival, ribbons, awards and more. Spend a morning filling orders in September … Contact Tia Scott at 303-607-1826.**
  • Stop by on the first Wednesday morning of each month for a free "Second Cup of Coffee" (or tea) and a chance to visit with parents and staff. Better yet, pick a few mornings to help serve the coffee.
  • Purchase your groceries using King Soopers Certificates, also accepted at Albertsons, Safeway and Cubs. It is no additional cost to you and yet the program raises over $5000 for the school, for the school master plan (parking lot, nature trail) To learn more, contact Jeannie at 697-1072***
  • Support rebates to the school by turning in the "Box tops for Education" from cereal boxes to the school office or shop at Target with a Target card or shop online at www.schoolpop.com. Recycle your old cell phones and printer cartridges with us. Purchase a school cookbook for fun ideas.**
  • Talk with your child's teacher about helping in the classroom. If not the classroom, the library?
  • The event for the adult community at Red Rocks is the Silent Auction. This fun evening is a major fundraiser for classroom & school materials. Set aside this evening and attend this event!**
  • Visit the classroom occasionally and give a short presentation on art (materials provided) through the Arts Around program. If you are interested, come to the information meeting at the school on Sept 5th.
  • Support reading by spending part of a day helping children pick out a free book at one of the three RIF (Reading is Fundamental) distribution days or help families shop at the Book Fair in October or volunteer to work with your child at a family book reading club called Junior Great Books***.
  • Help your child's class learn the joy of giving either by creating a holiday gift basket for a needy family (Adopt-a-family in November) or Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF on Halloween.** The kid's favorite evening is the Spring Carnival in May. All Red Rocks' families help out by hanging decorations, spending an hour manning a game booth, serving food, painting faces and more!**
  • Join the Hospitality Committee & help with our "welcoming environment".** Do you like games & crafts or can you bake? Help with our great homeroom parties- meeting Sept. 4th. Spend a morning helping kids shop at our Holiday Gift Shoppe Dec 2-4. Use your creative energy by helping with props for the School Musical** Do you have a green thumb? Help the Plant Sale in May or garden in the "Native Garden."**
  • Celebrate back-to-school with our traditional Soccer Night. It's a great night for families and friends. Soccer is free. Dinner is offered at a nominal charge. Help with the games or dinner.** Sept 5th.
  • Is your focus on health, nutrition and healthy choices? Consider helping give ONE short presentation in the classroom for Tar Wars, keep track of kids "laps" for the Mileage Club, help with the Jumping Jelly Beans jump rope club or with the Fitness testing. Join your child for a morning of fun at the Fun Run. It is truly a "run" through the residential section of Morrison. You can run OR be on hand to cheer, pass out water, and award ribbons on Sept. 26th.
  • Help your child with a special project. Enter the Science Fair** (March-April) . Create a work of art and submit it to the Reflections - a school wide to nationwide art contest during November.** (Sign up to help with Reflections…All you have to do is help check in the great art work***!) Help your child master public speaking during Oral Interpretation.** Enroll your child in the optional French or Spanish language programs offered through PTA.** Help organize or be the accompanist for the school choir. HAVE FUN!
