PTA/ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT SUMMARY FOR DECEMBER 4TH MEETING
  • Red Rocks has received an excellent rating in the School Accountability Reports for the 2nd year in a row!!
  • Thank you to Tim Brown, Ann Nelson, and Kim Sherrard for volunteering their time to help in completing a survey to recognize Red Rocks as a National PTA School of Excellence!
  • One of PTA's initiatives is to ensure proper TV viewing for children. Parents can log on to www.kidsnet.org to use as a media guide to check the appropriateness of TV programs for their children.
  • Sylvia Marston gave a sneak preview of our awesome, new, PTA website which will be up and running by the 1st of the year. Parents will be able to check the school calendar, find valuable resources and sign up to volunteer or join the PTA and more!
  • If you're interested in bringing an appetizer, salad or cookies for a teacher's luncheon on Dec. 17th, call Ann Nelson.
  • The Red Rocks recipe book is done! Sheree McLaughlin is looking for ideas regarding printing. If you have any contacts or ideas, please contact Ms. McLaughlin.
  • Entertainment Books have been paid for. Prizes are expected to arrive shortly.
  • The city is recommending that we continue to use bottled water. Please send in a fresh water bottle every day with your child. Please note that teachers will no longer be giving out cups for water.
  • A former Red Rocks teacher, Ann Simmons, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Money for a travel fund is being collected. Please make checks payable to Red Rocks Elementary if you'd like to make a donation.
  • Pat Harrod reported on the bike races put on by Red Rocks Cyclery that have been held at the school. The trails that have been cleared are part of the master plan for the school grounds. Some of the proceeds will be given to the school. Student council also set up a concession stand during the races as a fundraiser.
  • Jeannie Holtz, our King Soopers rep, announced that we'll have earned $2875 as soon as we sell out what we have. Remember to turn in your Box Tops for Education to the office as well as checking the bottom of your Sept. King Soopers receipts for extra points.
  • Looking for a way to get your child excited about books?! Tim Brown would like to set up a meeting with parents who may be interested in starting a Junior Great Books program at school in the coming year. This program consists of a group of 8-10 kids with an adult facilitator who promotes a discussion of higher level thinking skills around a chosen book.
  • The Silent Auction is scheduled for Thurs., Feb. 13th. This is the Thurs. before the mini break. If you have any feedback concerning this date, please let Cindy Brown know.
