PTA/Accountability Meeting Raccoon Summary – Sept. 8, 2004?
We had an outstanding turn out for the first meeting of the year.
Twenty-four parents and staff members were present.
* The goals for the school year were announced: giving parents
support and information; providing support for the school staff;
working towards 100% parent involvement; increase the usage of volunteer
tracking; get 25% of families using the school/PTA web site; PTA
fundraising with the goal of $35,000 to put towards technology and
other PTA sponsored activities; and increasing student computer
usage.
* Contact Cindy Brown if you would like to help with bringing meals
for the teachers during October conferences.
* Tia Scott, Accountability Chair, distributed information on what
the bond/mill levy is about and how parents can help get information
out to the public on the bond/mill levy issue. Volunteers are needed
for putting up yard signs, making phone calls, walking neighborhoods
or passing out information at Safeway. Contact Ms. Scott for further
information or questions.
* Our fund raising efforts from last year allows the PTA to once
again provide a grant of $200 to each full time teacher and $100
to part time teachers at Red Rocks to assist them in getting items
for their classrooms that the school budget may not allow. The teachers
are able to purchase items that remain in the classroom (books,
etc…), which will benefit our children in years to come.
* PTA membership has reached 156 members. Our goal is to have 202
members for the 2004-2005 school year. All are encouraged to come
to meetings to help make decisions for our children. Business members
are also welcome. There are plans to invite businesses in our community
for a coffee on Oct. 7th to get to know our school. Please contact
Membership chairperson, Joanna Braun, for more information.
* Remember to fill out Volunteer hour forms every month to track
the time you spend helping out in the classroom or with school activities.
They can be found in the PTA box located in the office. This information
is used for applying for grants and school involvement awards. Monthly
drawings for $10 gift certificates to local restaurants will take
place on the Friday before PTA meetings. Increase your chances of
winning by turning in your forms each month!
* Support new families to Red Rocks by becoming a mentor. Contact
Angie Hellebush if interested in welcoming new families and keeping
them apprised of activities and being available to answer any questions
they may have.
* Look for upcoming information on our first parent workshop this
year. Barb Anderson, who is a retired teacher, will be at Red Rocks
on Oct. 26th, 6:30-8pm, to talk about helping your child with homework
and good study habits.
* PTA will provide grants to 2 parents interested in attending the
24 Hours to Grow conference in Winter Park on Oct. 1st and 2nd.
Workshops include helping kids succeed, fundraising with a purpose,
critical TV viewing and more. Contact Angie Hellebush or Kathi Frymier
for more information.
* The new Red Rocks water bottles may be purchased for $8 each or
$15 for two. See Kristy Fair if interested.
* Please send in your used ink cartridges and cell phones for our
Cartridges for Kids fundraiser. Collection boxes are available for
businesses. Contact Kristy Fair.
* Remember to turn in Entertainment book orders on Fri., Sept. 10th.
* Treasurer, Sandy Merchant, presented a $52,135 budget proposal.
Majority of the funds will be applied towards our technology commitment
as well as other operating expenses for school events throughout
the year.
* Ms. Merchant asks for reimbursement forms to be turned in no later
than 2 weeks from the date of the event. These forms can be found
in the office. Room parents are reminded that the budget allows
$1 per child per party. Left over money cannot be carried over to
future parties. Chairpersons are asked to stay within or under their
budget if possible.
* Ms. Namura discussed our successful school opening with 296 students
and a few minor glitches regarding the school bells and clocks.
A portion of the school roof has been replaced and parking issues
were discussed. The town of Morrison is writing a grant to help
us with our parking situation.
* Get online and check out Red Rocks Elementary School web site
at www.jeffcoweb.jeffco.k12.co.us/elem/redrocks. The effort Mr.
Harrod has put into this site is much appreciated. You can also
access our PTA web site at www.redrockspta.org.
* Contact Lori Graber if interested in purchasing King Soopers certificates.
PTA receives 5% back from these purchases.
* Look for upcoming information on the Reflections program, which
is a national program of arts recognition. Students may enter in
visual arts, photography, musical composition or literature. Contact
Guen Sublette for more information.
* Get involved in your child’s classroom by volunteering for
Arts Around, a program to broaden knowledge of fine arts. No experience
is necessary. Prints, presentation ideas and information are provided.
Contact Monika Barlock or Christine Jones if interested.
* Kim Kritz, Silent Auction Co-Chair, shared some new ideas for
our auction including possible locations and doing a raffle in conjunction
with ticket sales. Contact Kim, Michelle Kiser or Michelle Warren
if you have any suggestions or ideas.
* Hope to see you at the Family Math Jam on Sept. 16th!
* Thank you to Cindy Brown for providing goodies at our first meeting!
