PTA/ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT SUMMARY FOR JANUARY 15TH MEETING
- We had an informative visit from Jeffco Superintendent, Dr. Cindy Stevenson, who spoke about her job, the role of the Board of Education and work that is being done by a citizen review committee help prioritize proposed budget cuts. - Thank you to Rachel Lambden and Debra Gradick for meeting with 3rd-6th graders as part of the Tar Wars program as well as Jennifer Riccio for heading the poster contest to coincide with this program. Ms. Gradick has also arranged through the National Asthma Assoc., for the Breath Better Bus to come to our school on February 12th and 13th. 1st-6th graders will have the opportunity to go through stations on the bus to learn about asthma, air pollution and smoking. Contact your child's teacher if you would like to help.
- On Jan. 30th, the staff is organizing a workshop for parents who help in the classroom. The workshop will include how to keep children on task as well as strategies for working with your child at home. Thanks to Ginger Brinkhaus, there are also plans to have a free Love and Logic workshop in March, with nationally renowned speaker, Jim Fay. Check our school library for Love and Logic materials as well as other parenting resources.
- Set aside Feb. 5th for Family Math Night. Come home with new ideas for helping your child with math!
- Thank you to Elsa Wolff for her fun visits to the classrooms with songs and stories as part of the Kindness Campaign. She is incorporating the phrase, "Doing A O.K." which stands for Acts of Kindness. In the classrooms, heart chains will grow in length with each act of kindness.
- So far this year, 134 students have been acknowledged for their acts of kindness by receiving Pride Awards. Way to go students! Celebrate your child's successes! Remember to contact Lori Graber or the office to share your child's achievements outside of school by having it printed in the Raccoon.
- Fund raiser news: The Opt-out program has raised $3084, Entertainment Books brought in approximately $4000, membership and directories, $1300. The Recipe books have not made a profit yet, but $370 worth has been sold. There are still more in stock and they are great fun! See Sheree McLaughlin if you'd like to purchase one.
- The application to submit Red Rocks as a National PTA School of Excellence is completed thanks to the hard work of several parents, staff and community members. Our school received an excellent rating in almost all 50 categories.
- It's a Mexican Fiesta! The adult community is invited to Red Rocks Country Club on Feb. 22nd for the Silent Auction. Price is $12, which includes heavy hors de oeuvres, dessert and dancing, with a cash bar available. The Silent Auction committee is actively seeking donations. Also needed are volunteers to help close down the auction. Contact Cindy Brown if you can help in one of these ways.
- Red Rocks has received a new banner from Governor Owens, recognizing our school as a John Irwin School of Excellence for last year's performance on CSAP testing!.
- Arts Around has applied for a grant to spruce up the existing pieces of art, thanks to Sofia Frederick! Sofia is still looking for volunteers in Kindergarten and 6th grades.
- Join us at the March meeting to nominate officers and committee chairs for next year. Let Kathi Frymier know if you're interested in a position
- Our school carnival date is May 2nd.
- Ms. Avey encourages anyone who is interested to attend the PTA Legislative Conference on Jan. 31st where you can meet with our legislators and attend workshops to gain an understanding of public policies. Visit www.vote@smart.org to find out who our elected officials are.
